Hand Rankings - From Highest To Lowest
Royal Flush
Ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, all from the same suit. Although this hand has been given it's own name, it is not a separate rank in it's own right. It is simply the highest Straight Flush, and therefore the best possible hand in poker.




Straight Flush
Five cards of sequential value, all from the same suit.




Four Of A Kind
Any four cards of the same value. Each suit will be represented.



Full House
Any three of a kind and pair together, regardless of which suits they are from.




Flush
Any five cards of the same suit, regardless of the individual cards values.




Straight
Five cards of sequential value, regardless of which suits they are from.




Three Of A Kind
Any three cards of the same value, regardless of which suits they are from.


Two Pairs
Any two pairs, regardless of which suits they are from.


One Pair
Any two cards of the same value, regardless of which suits they are from.
Highest Card
The highest value card in play, regardless of which suit it comes from.
Popular Hand Names, And Naming Conventions
Royal Flush
Also known as an "Ace-High Straight Flush".
Straight Flush
A straight flush from Ace to Five, is known as a "Steel Wheel".
Four Of A Kind
Also known as "Quads", or a "Book".
Full House
Also known as a "Boat", or a "Full Boat". Popularly described as being the three of a kind 'full of' the pair. For example "Jacks full of Sevens" for JJJ77, or "Twos full of Aces" for 222AA.
Flush
Popularly described using the value of the highest card. For example, "King-High Flush", or "Nine-High Flush".
Straight
A straight from Ace to Five, is known as a "Wheel".
Three Of A Kind
Also known as a "Set" when the player has two of the cards as his hole cards, and the third card is dealt as a community card. Also known as "Trips", when the player holds none, or one of the cards as hole cards, and the remaining cards are dealt as community cards.
Two Pairs
Popularly described as being the highest pair 'over' the lowest pair, or as the highest pair 'up'. For example "Kings over Jacks", or simply as "Kings Up" for KKJJ.
